The group's leader Rekhaben Yadav accused the builder of having "threatened" the local residents against raising objections. (Express Photo) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has chosen Mahatma Gandhi’s alma mater, Rajkot’s Alfred High School, to make public its views on same-sex marriage. The saffron organisation passed a resolution last week opposing the idea of same-sex marriage and criticised the Supreme Court for deciding something that it said was a “legislative function”.
Bhupat Govani, VHP secretary for the Saurashtra region, along with religious figures, will hold a press conference at the conference hall of Mahatma Gandhi Anubhuti Kendra, or Mahatma Gandhi museum, housed in the erstwhile school. After shutting down the school in 2017, the government converted the building into a museum with a conference hall in 2018.
No Child’s Play
A group of 15 eunuchs are up in arms against builder Mahesh Shukla who is carrying out construction in the common open plot (COP) of Ram Rajya society in the Dindoli area of Surat, pushing the case for the children’s play area.
Residents of the area, the eunuchs on April 26 made a representation to Surat Collector Ayush Oak and Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agrawal demanding to demolish the illegal construction done on the common open plot reserved for children’s play area in the society.
The group’s leader Rekhaben Yadav accused the builder of having “threatened” the local residents against raising objections.
“The construction on plot number 45, 46 and 47 is still in progress and on February 14 , we complained to the Limbayat Zone office head and demanded to stop such construction activities. Still, no steps had been taken by civic officials,” said Yadav.
