Minister of State for Education Praful Pansheriya Thursday held a meeting with government officers at Bhuj in Kutch district to review the work done by the government in the aftermath of Cyclone Biparjoy that had hit the district on June 15.

After the meeting, the minister praised the efforts put in by the officers, particularly Preeti Sharma, the joint managing director of Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited in Bhuj.

The minister commended and felicitated the officer for remaining on duty, despite being pregnant, as the government prepared to mitigate the cyclone impact and then restore powerlines after the landfall.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who was in Vadodara to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate works worth Rs 293 crore of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation Thursday, shared banter with BJP Vadodara MP Ranjan Bhatt when she admitted to being “anxious” that the event would have to be called off due to heavy rains.

Bhatt said at the event, “We were worried that if the rain does not stop, the CM won’t be able to reach… We were praying that the rain should pause for at least two hours. Thankfully, the rain stopped and the CM was able to reach.”

Later, CM Patel, who was also accompanied by Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, quipped, “You have brought me here but have you also arranged for me to return? I hope you have taken care of that, too, because I want to go back home.” The party leaders on the dais and the audience burst into laughter.
