Congress has reportedly formed a committee to “talk to its cadres” after giving away the Bharuch parliamentary seat to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in a seat-sharing alliance in Gujarat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The committee is expected to reach out to late Ahmed Patel’s son Faisal Patel, who expressed his desire to contest from the constituency. A senior party leader said it is trying to mollify Faisal and sister, Mumtaz, who also aspired for a Congress ticket from the seat.

“AICC has formed a committee of leaders from the state to reach out to the family of Ahmed Patel ji, who has been an important part of the Congress. In the coming days, we will speak to Faisal Patel and Mumtaz Patel and iron out the differences. The local Bharuch unit will also join the campaign,” the leader said. Apart from Ahmed Patel’s family, the Congress’s Bharuch Unit has also, so far, stayed away from Chaitar Vasava’s ongoing campaign– Swabhiman Yatra– even as the Dediapada MLA had “invited” the leaders to join in. On Monday, Congress leader Naran Rathwa said, “In the upcoming Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra of Rahul Gandhi that will arrive in the tribal districts, AAP workers will also join, and the Congress workers will also campaign for AAP.”
