Gujarat Assembly to hold daylong workshop on legal drafting for Class-1 officers

The workshop has been organised in collaboration with the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies and Gujarat National Law University (GNLU).

Gujarat AssemblyA top official of the Gujarat Assembly secretariat said that the workshop has been organised under the guidance of Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary to give exposure of legislative drafting like rules, notifications, and Bills to the new generation of the state bureaucracy.

The Gujarat Assembly is set to hold a daylong workshop on legislative drafting for the Class-I officers of different departments of the state government on October 22. The workshop has been organised in collaboration with the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies and Gujarat National Law University (GNLU).

A top official of the Gujarat Assembly secretariat said that the workshop has been organised under the guidance of Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary to give exposure of legislative drafting like rules, notifications, and Bills to the new generation of the state bureaucracy.

“Class-I officials of the state government’s different departments will participate in the workshop. It will have four subjects: 1) Language of Drafting; 2) Constitutional provisions for legislative drafting; 3) Structure and formats of Bills, rules and 4) General rules of statutory interpretations and case studies,” he said.

According to top sources in the Assembly secretariat, Advocate General Kamal Trivedi is likely to attend the inaugural function of the workshop. On the other hand, Union Home minister Amit Shah is likely to attend the valedictory session.

“Amit Shah has given a primary consent to attend the function. We expect a formal and final consent from his (Shah’s) office shortly,” said sources.
