The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) plans to introduce online assessment of answer sheets of lakhs of students studying in more than 400 engineering and professional colleges across the state.
GTU has sent a team led by registrar and controller of examinations G P Vadodaria to study the new system being used in Visvesvaraya Technological University in Bangalore.
Vice-Chancellor Akshai Aggarwal told reporters on Thursday that under the new system, all the answer sheets will be scanned and uploaded to a computer. The online sheets would then be forwarded to the examiners.
He said that the new system would bring in more transparency and impartiality in assessment, besides bringing down the cost as the university will not have to spend huge amounts on transporting answer sheets to different places and then bringing them back.
As the answer sheets will be available online, students and parents who are not satisfied with the scores obtained by students can view the answer sheets online to know where and why the students lost marks.
Aggarwal further said that the system would be totally fool-proof and cannot be tampered with by anybody.
