GTU dress code for first convocation: Kurta-pyjama

The Gujarat Technological University has decided on traditional Indian “kurtas” and “pyjamas” as the dress code for its annual convocation to be held on January 19.

The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has decided on traditional Indian “kurtas” and “pyjamas” as the dress code for its annual convocation to be held on January 19.

However,special gowns with scarfs have been designed for chancellor,vice-chancellor and other top officials of the university for the occasion.

This is the first annual convocation of the university since it was set up in 2009 when all the technical and professional institutes across the state were brought under it.

Head of the textile engineering department of the L D College of Engineering A I Thakkar,who was assigned the charge for the dress code,said no student would be allowed in any other dress like trousers and shirts.

The students will be informed about the dress code through their emails. Thakkar said the information would also be uploaded on the website of GTU. University officials said the information would also be published in newspapers.

Though a total of 3,500 students having cleared MBA,M Pharm and ME would be awarded their degrees,1,611 of them are to attend the convocation. The rest can collect it from the university office.

According to GTU registrar G P Vadodara,the function will be held in LD College of Engineering’s cricket ground and Governor Kamla Beniwal,who is also the chancellor,will be the chief guest.

A GTU official said CM Narendra Modi has also been invited but his consent has yet not reached the university.
