The Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Pathak,who died in Thailand on Saturday,was cremated with police honours in the presence of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajni Patel in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Modi offered condolences to Pathaks wife and children. The guard of honour and condolence ceremony started at around 8.45 am and continued till 10 am from where a convoy carrying Pathaks body was taken for the crematorium.
Principal Secretary (Home) S K Nanda,State Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha and IAS officers Bhagyesh Jha and G C Murmu attended the guard of honour event.
The convoy of 20 to 25 cars with around 140 IPS officers and more than 300 policemen escorted the body to the crematorium near VS Hospital in the city. Pathaks body was cremated at Mukti Dham cremetorium in Ahmedabad at around 10.30 am after the police department fired a salute to honour him.
His funeral was attended by former DGPs S S Khandwawala,Chitranjan Singh and retired IPS officers Sudhir Sinha,O P Mathur,M M Mehta,V V Rabari and K Nityanandam. The IPS officers from all districts remained present at the cremation. IPS officer Satish Verma was also seen with a walking stick at the ceremony.
Pathaks body had arrived in Ahmedabad on Saturday at 11.20 pm from Mumbai. His family,who brought the body from Thailand,had reached Mumbai at 6 pm a day earlier. IPS officer Vikas Sahay was sent to Mumbai to assist the family. A prayer meeting for him is scheduled on August 26 at the Gujarat Convention Hall in Ahmedabad from 8.30 am to 10.30 am.
