Denied victory rally,workers clash with cops

Congress workers clashed with police when they were stopped from taking out a rally to celebrate the party’s victory in the Assembly bypoll for the Mansa seat in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.

Congress workers clashed with police when they were stopped from taking out a rally to celebrate the party’s victory in the Assembly bypoll for the Mansa seat in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.

They allegedly damaged the car of state BJP president R C Faldu and pelted stones at police personnel and their vehicles. Police had to resorted to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

Gandhinagar SP Archana Shivhare said,“Although the mamlatdar had denied permission to hold a rally,Congress workers were taking out a procession. When the police stopped them,they pelted stones at policemen. We have detained a few persons and trying to ascertain their identity.” Extra force has been deployed in the town to maintain law and order.
