Dahod MP ‘manhandling’: Parliamentary panel urges govt to take action against former DySP

It also condemned the reckless manner in which the situation was handled by the police,in which “she was treated without keeping in mind her exalted status as an MP”.

A Parliamentary Committee, formed to look into a complaint by Dahod MP Prabha Taviad on the police allegedly manhandling her while she was going to attend a function of Chief Minister Narendra Modi in her constituency, has recommended that the state government took action against the then Deputy SP S P Sarang who was in charge of the police force at the function that day.

The Committee, headed by P C Chako, has expressed displeasure over the over-zealous conduct of the police personnel, led by Deputy SP S P Sarang,in stopping Taviad from attending the function organised in Dahod city on May 1,2012. It stated that this resulted in Dahod MP Prabha Taviad being “humiliated”.

The findings of the Committee was part of the Committee of Privileges report, presented to the Lok Sabha Speaker on Friday.

“The committee recommends that appropriate action in this regard may be taken by the state government against S P Sarang,Deputy SP,Dahod.

The Committee further deprecates the act of the police authorities in using excessive and avoidable force against MP Taviad,” read the report submitted before the Speaker,a copy of which was accessed by The Indian Express.

It also condemned the reckless manner in which the situation was handled by the police,in which “she was treated without keeping in mind her exalted status as an MP”.

Taviad had complained about this before the Parliament last year, following which the Committee was formed.
