After levelling an allegation that a minister of ruling BJP was prolonging answer to a question to avoid discussion on the next question related to the situation of law and order in Ahmedabad city during the Question Hour in the Gujarat Assembly, Congress MLAs staged a walkout from the House on Tuesday.

The issue arose when a few minutes were left in the Question Hour of the House’s proceedings for the day and Agriculture Minister Babu Bokhiria was replying to question number 7 related to the medical treatment given to livestock in Kutch district.

While Bokhiria was giving a detailed reply to the question, Congress MLA from Shahpur area of Ahmedabad city, Gyasuddin Shaikh, raised the issue that the minister was prolonging his answer to avoid discussion on question number 8 that was asked by the former about the law and order situation in Ahmedabad city in the house.

This was followed by a round of heated arguments between Congress MLAs and the ruling benches. When Bokhiria continued his reply to the question on livestock, Leader of Opposition Shankersinh Vaghela led his party’s walkout.

Shaikh asked question number 8 in which he had sought details on the number of cases of murder, robbery, rape, theft and kidnapping had been reported in Ahmedabad city in last one year till December 31, 2014. He also asked that how many of these cases were detected and how many accused were arrested. According to the official reply by the Home Minister, there were 82 murders, 260 robberies, 18 loot, 100 rapes, 2,589 thefts and 366 kidnapping reported in Ahmedabad last year. Out of those, 78 murder cases, 181 robberies, 16 loots, 100 rapes, 1,068 thefts and 327 kidnappings were detected.
