Acting on a petition that sought an FIR against certain Christian religious figures from central Gujarat for allegedly causing mental torture to a female employee of a hostel, the Gujarat High Court recently issued a notice to various respondents, including two priests.

The petition was moved by one Samuel Dabhi from Anand district.

Dabhi’s lawyer Rajesh Shah said his client’s daughter,Violet, used to work as superintendent at Methodist Church’s India’s boys hostel in Kathlal.

“However, after some misappropriation of funds at the institute in which the girl was not responsible, the accused started harassing her and she was ultimately removed from the job. The harassment did not stop here and an SMS questioning her character started doing the rounds,” said Shah.

“Unable to bear this, she met an unnatural death out of shock,” he said.

The next hearing is on July 20.
