Ex-minister Haridas Lal passes away

Ahmedabad: Former Gujarat minister Haridas Jivadas Lal passed away on Sunday at his residence in Ahmedabad. he was 84. He was first elected to the state Assembly from Bhanvad in Jamnagar. He is survived by wife,two sons and three daughters.

Infant dies two days after immunisation

AHMEDABAD: A two-month-old infant died in Thakkar Bapanagar locality here after two days of being administered vaccines during a routine immunisation drivecarried out by the AMC. “Two-month-old Dhrumil was administered three routine vaccines on Friday namely DPT,Hepatitis-B and OPV. He is the only one to have died on Sunday,amongst the over 40 children covered under the immunisation drive that began on last Monday,” AMC Health Officer Bhavin Solanki said.

Online admission process begins today

AHMEDABAD: Online registration for admission to courses in the state’s engineering colleges will begin on Tuesday. Distribution of information booklets will also start from Tuesday and it can be had from the designated branches of the Punjab National Bank. Online registration as also filled registration forms will be accepted till May 27. Provisional merit list will be declared on June 1 and the final list on July 2.

Cong blames govt for high petrol price

Ahmedabad: The state Congress on Monday demanded that the state government reduce VAT on petrol to give relief to the people from rise of the fuel’s price,even as BJP held a state-wide dharna protesting the hike. “Gujarat has maximum tax burden on petrol and diesel. There is VAT of 28% on petrol with additional tax of 2%,while on diesel VAT is of 21% with additional tax burden of 3%,” said Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil.

Robbers flee without booty,fire at owner

AHMEDABAD: Four persons reportedly entered a house in

Naroda area on Monday but had to flee leaving behind the cash and jewellry they had stolen. The robbers had looted the valuables after threatening the lone 19-year-girl present in the house. However,after a while,the girl’s father,Babu Patel,and other relatives landed there and chased away the robbers. Before fleeing,one of them fired at Patel,who was admitted to a local hospital.
