Every year,school authorities present students with flowers,chocolates and small token gifts,but this year the BJP has undertaken a similar drive.

BJP Karelibaug ward president Kalpana Patel said: “It was around 8.30pm on Wednesday night that our party president called up a meeting informing us about the activity to be carried out for the students. We have been at the examination centres in the morning and then in the afternoon again to welcome the SSC and the HSC students.”

BJP city president Bharat Dangar added: “We had involved everyone in our party and a small group of our members were sent to all the 78 examination centres in the city to apply tilak to the students. There were also some police officers who visited some of the schools.”

Meanwhile,the Flying Squad reported numerous cases of copying on the first day of the examination.

In Vadodara district,the Flying Squad recorded 21 copying cases in the SSC and eight in the HSC examination. But all the cases have been reported from the rural areas — Chhota Udepur,Bodeli,Savli and Pavi Jetpur.

Besides Vadodara,two cases of copying were reported from Panchmahals and four from Dahod. Vadodara in-charge District Education Officer S P Chaudhary said: “Stringency in inspection has been maintained and most of the students were found bringing in chits inside the classroom.”
