Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Nimuben Bambhaniya, inaugurated Gujarat’s first grain ATM in Bhavnagar on Tuesday to facilitate round-the-clock distribution of ration under the public distribution system (PDS) of the Central government.
Bambhaniya inaugurated the grain ATM called Annapurti in Karchaliyapara locality of Bhavnagar city.
The grain ATM has been calibrated to dispense wheat and rice and has in-built tanks with capacity to hold 2,500 kg of foodgrains, an official release said.
Those covered under the National Food Security Act can visit the grain ATM booth anytime of the day, punch in their ration card, prove their identity by their fingerprints through a scanner in the machine and get their monthly quota of ration, according to officials.
