Chief Minister Narendra Modis day-long fast in Bavla town,some 40 kilometers from Ahmedabad city,to be held on Tuesday is tipped to be the biggest one under the Sadbhavana Mission in terms of events on the sidelines.
Besides BJP leaders and workers,at least one thousand police personnel,hundreds of district officials from top to lower ranks and gram panchayat officials have been working round the clock for the programme for the last two weeks.
This is a massive exercise,something we had never done before, Ahmedabad District Collector Vijay Nehra told reporters here on Monday. As many as 65 CCTV cameras have been installed at the venue,Krishna Industries plot,spread over five acres,he said.
Along with Modi,over 16,000 people are expected to fast while another 9,000 will meet him personally in the presence of approximately 1.5 lakh people. For this purpose,one lakh pouches of 200 ml butter milk has been donated by a private dairy firm besides water and other facilities.
Nehra further said that through a drive,they have collected 1.5 lakh kg of foodgrains from different villages,which will be distributed among the poor people in those villages.
Health authorities have conducted a survey of 68,000 girls in the district and found 26,000 of them with low haemoglobin levels. During the event,the CM will provide nutritious food to such children, he added.
District officials said that state Revenue Minister Anandi Patel has already camped in Bavla where an exhibition on Sadbhavana Mission was inaugurated on Monday.
Murtaza Khan Pathan,a Congress leader and the leader of opposition in district panchayat,alleged that for the last 15 days,the entire government machinery is on standby. They have shunned peoples work and are engaged in organising the Chief Ministers fast, he alleged.
