Alert guard foils robbery attempt in Junagadh

An attempt to rob the officials of the Paschim Gujarat Vij Co. Ltd (PGVCL) who had gone to a bank to deposit the company money on Tuesday was foiled because of the alertness of a security guard.

An attempt to rob the officials of the Paschim Gujarat Vij Co. Ltd (PGVCL) who had gone to a bank to deposit the company money on Tuesday was foiled because of the alertness of a security guard.

According to a complaint lodged with the Junagadh ‘B’ division police station,two PGVCL officials,including a security guard,had gone to a State Bank of India branch located on Jayshree Road in an autorickshaw on Tuesday to deposit Rs 2,54,684.

As the officials were getting off the autorickshaw,a man rushed towards them and tried to snatch the cash bag they had,by throwing chilli powder at them.

Despite the sudden attack,the security guard,P B Meghnathi,showed alertness and managed to get hold of the accused who was trying to flee with the bag.

In the meanwhile,the passers-by also gathered and helped the guard foil the attempt. The accused has been identified as Razzak Gameti,a resident of Junagadh.

The police rushed to the spot and arrested Gameti. A complaint has been registered against Gameti under Sections 394 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code.

K D Rathod,the sub inspector investigating the case,said the accused was produced before the court on Tuesday evening and was remanded in police custody for a day.

Rathod said that two persons were involved in the loot attempt and efforts are on to nab the other accused.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Gameti was an unemployed youth and no crime record involving him has been found.
