After the placement season got over in March, its now the time for admissions at the Indian Institute of Management,Ahmedabad (IIM-A). Last week, the Postgraduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX) got underway with 80 middle and senior level executives joining the one-year course.
Of these,56 are engineers, one is a doctor and one is a chartered accountant. The average work experience of the batch is 10 years, with an international work exposure of over 7 years.
IIM-A officials said as many as 209 students have completed the PGPX course since its launch in 2006,which is probably the most expensive course at the institute, with the fee being Rs 15 lakh.
This week the institute has offered admission to 315 students for its flagship programme, the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) a jump from the 280 students last year.
Recently,IIM-A announced a fee increase for the two-year course by Rs 50,000 to Rs 12.5 lakh.
The institute received applications from 2,38,665 candidates of the total 2,46,546 who appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) on November 16,2008. Of these,817 candidates were short-listed and called for interview.
Finally,315 students (only 0.13 per cent of those who applied) were offered final admissions on the basis of a diverse set of attributes like CAT score, interview performance, academic and extra-curricular achievements and work experience. This makes IIM-A the toughest B-school to get into.
