New Verna unveiled at a launch event on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. (Express)Hyundai on Tuesday launched the sixth generation model of its popular mid-level sedan Verna at a starting price of Rs 10.89 lakh.
Verna will be available in two engine options–1.5 L (1500 cc) producing 143.8 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm and 1.5 L Turbo GDi Petrol churning 253 Nm torque at 1500-3500 rpm.
The sedan is offered in three transmission options: six-speed manual, IVT, and seven-speed DCT with the top model costing Rs 17,37,900. The fuel efficiency, as claimed by the company, is between 18.6 and 20.6 kmpl.
New Verna will come with 30 standard safety features including six airbags (driver, passenger, side, and curtain), as well as advanced safety features like electronic stability control (ESC) with VSM, Hill assist control (HAC), all-wheel disc brakes.
The car offers front ventilated and heated seats, a power driver seat, a voice-enabled smart electric sunroof, a smartphone wireless charger, a smart trunk, a rear manual curtain, paddle shifters, and cruise control.
However, the main attraction is home-to-car Alexa and Google Voice Assistant in Hindi and English that can accept commands like “AC on kar do” and “Sunroof kholo”.
“Today, we are embarking on a new journey with the launch of the all-new Hyundai VERNA. Our ambitions and vision for this new sedan have culminated in an amalgamation of advanced technology, scintillating design and superior performance that create Futuristic and Ferocious mobility experiences,” said Unsoo Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd.
Hyundai COO Tarun Garg told news agency PTI that the company aims to sell close to 40,000 units of the sedan this year, doubling volumes from 2022.
The country’s second-largest carmaker sold around 19,000 Verna units last year. He noted that the company has already received close to 8,000 bookings for the model so far. He said the sedan segment is witnessing growth in sales as new models are being launched, giving an option to buyers who seek comfort and performance in their daily commute.
The sedan segment accounted for 10.8 per cent of the overall passenger vehicle segment last year, an increase from around 9.5 per cent in 2021, Garg said.
