Her journey began with winning the Femina Miss India and Miss Asia Pacific International pageants in 1970, swiftly transitioning into acting with roles in The Evil Within (1970) and Hulchul (1971). Her breakthrough performance in Dev Anand's Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971) garnered her the Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for Best Actress and a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress, establishing her as a rising star.
