His career spans over two decades, marked by diverse roles and critical acclaim. Madhavan's breakthrough came with Mani Ratnam's Alai Payuthey (2000). He subsequently starred in numerous successful romantic dramas like Minnale and Dumm Dumm Dumm, establishing his presence in Tamil cinema. His versatility extended to critically acclaimed films such as Kannathil Muthamittal, Anbe Sivam, and Aayutha Ezhuthu, showcasing his range. His foray into Hindi cinema yielded equally impressive results. Roles in Rang De Basanti, Guru, and the blockbuster 3 Idiots cemented his pan-India appeal. A three-year acting break followed before a triumphant return with Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Irudhi Suttru, and Vikram Vedha. His compelling portrayal of a boxing coach in Irudhi Suttru garnered him several Best Actor awards, including accolades from Filmfare, IIFA, and SIIMA. His latest notable role is a villain in the recently released supernatural thriller Shaitaan (2024).
