Kolkata, Feb 17 (ANI): Jadavpur University students staged a protest on Wednesday inside the university campus condemning the anti-national activities at Jawaharlal Nehru University One of the protestors said they are against every activity which hurts the sentiment of Indians. Students raised slogans of 'Vande Matram'and held up posters which said they belonged to JNU but don’t support anti-state activities.

Kolkata, Feb 17 (ANI): Condemning all the anti-national activities and slogans, Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das on Wednesday said the rally was not officially convened by students' union. He assured that action will be taken against the people involved in the protest after he gets a report. Das said he will never govern the university with police's help as the university is an autonomous body. He added that entire university can't be defamed by such anti-national elements. Das said that some intruders were also spotted in the rally and the matter will be looked into by the university. He emphasized that the Jadhavpur University has a history of maintaining the freedom of expression and the right to dissent.

New Delhi/Mumbai, Feb 17 (ANI): Condemning the protests in Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Congress leader Manish Tewari on Wednesday said strict actions should be taken against people involved in anti-national activities but sedition charges should not be put against them as it fulfils their aspirations of gaining popularity. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon also condemned the protests in educational institutions. Meanwhile, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi emphasised on the need for the Jadavpur University students to come forward and identify the anti-social elements prevalent in the campus.

Kolkata, Feb 17 (ANI): Students of Jadavpur University in West Bengal took to streets expressing solidarity with the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) demanding release of student leader booked on sedition charges. JNU Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested last week on sedition charges after a group of youngsters organised an event in protest of the execution of 2001 parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru. Jadavpur University students shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Students and academics of the JNU continue to boycott classes to protest against government.

JU students protest demanding holding of students' union polls

Kolkata, Jan 09 (ANI): The students of Jadavpur University on Saturday protested over the holding of students' union elections. The students have been demonstrating protest following an advisory issued by the West Bengal Higher Education department, asking the state-run varsity to hold the elections after the state assembly polls. They were seen raising slogans in their protest. One of the protesters said that the decision will be taken once the committee will have a group discussion among themselves.
