Dr Satyapal Singh biography

Satyapal Singh is an Indian politician, former police officer, and Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Baghpat constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He is affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has held various positions in the government, including Minister of State for Human Resource Development.

Born on November 29, 1955, in Basauli village in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, Singh pursued his education in science, earning a Master's degree in Chemistry from Meerut University. He later obtained a PhD in Naxalism from the University of Nagpur.

Before entering politics, Satyapal Singh had a distinguished career in the Indian Police Service (IPS). Satyapal Singh's transition from an IPS to a politician was marked by his decision to resign from the IPS and join the BJP.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from the Baghpat constituency and won, defeating his nearest rival from the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). His victory was significant, as it marked the end of the long-standing dominance of the Chaudhary family in Baghpat.

However, in June 2014, Mumbai police uncovered a prostitution ring operating from a flat owned by Satya Pal Singh, which had been leased to a prominent business entity. Singh clarified that the property had been rented to the real estate firm Indiabulls for the past 33 months and announced his intention to take legal action against them for tarnishing his reputation.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Satyapal Singh successfully retained his seat in the Baghpat constituency, defeating his nearest rival from the RLD by a significant margin. His re-election was a testament to his popularity and the work he had done for his constituency.

As an MP and during his tenure as a Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Singh has been vocal about issues related to national security, law and order, and education.
