New photo of Princess Charlotte released ahead of second birthday

Keeping to tradition, the royal family shared a picture of Princess Charlotte ahead of her second birthday on May 2. The photo was tweeted by the Kensington Palace Twitter handle, with the caption, "The Duke and Duchess are delighted to share a new photograph of Princess Charlotte to mark her second birthday tomorrow". The picture was apparently taken by Duchess Kate herself at the family's country home in Norfolk, England, and shows the toddler wearing a yellow sweater featuring spring lambs. In another tweet, the royal couple said: "We hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as we do." Though the royals have been photographed by professionals before, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been taking the occasioal informal approach by releasing photos take by family members. Previously, they've tweeted photos taken by Kate herself as well as her father Michael Middleton.

A family-run children's clothes shop in Spain has been inundated with orders from around the world for dresses identical to the one worn by Britain's Princess Charlotte in the latest official photos - but has enough cloth to make only 20 of them. Prince William's wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, was safely delivered of a daughter, less than three hours of checking into central London's St. Mary's Hospital, royal officials said. Kensington Palace said the baby was born at 8:34 a.m. London time (0734 GMT) and weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces (3.7 kg).

Prince Charles has signaled — twice — that he was hoping for a granddaughter, which led some to speculate that Charles had some inside information.
