Syrian army recaptures Marj Al-Sultan airbase after gunbattle with rebels

A day after Syria Army’s successful mission to recapture Syria’s Marj-al-Sultan airbase on the outskirts of Damascus, exclusive footage from Ruptly shows the aftermath of the operation inside the liberated military facility.

The video shows damaged hardware such as helicopters, tanks, and several damaged buildings.

In a fierce gunbattle with anti-government rebels on Wednesday, the Syrian army retook the Marj al-Sultan airbase situated on the outskirts of Damascus after nearly three years of control under rebels.

Syrian Army troops, reportedly backed by Hezbollah fighters, stormed the airbase located in the Ghouta agricultural area. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the pro-government troops continue to secure the surrounding areas with the help of outside support. The UK-based monitoring group said that the operation began a month back with the Syrian army continuing to reclaim vast tracts of land with the help of regional allies and Russia.
