Asked about how Gionee devices have been performing in the country, Vohra said, “We came to India about two-and-a-half years back and between then and now, we have sold about 7 million phones.” He added that the company is looking to reach the 10 million mark soon.
Gionee had recently announced its partnership with Foxconn to manufacture its F and P series in India. It now plans to expand its manufacturing units across the country in hopes of even better sales figures.
Speaking on its ‘Make In India initiative, Vohra said, “We are going model by model and have already started assembling P103 and S+ smartphone models in India. We plan to manufacture all Gionee devices in the country by March 2016.”
Commenting on Android Marshmallow upgrade for Gionee phones, he said, “Even before the Android Marshmallow was released, Gionee smartphones had several features that were quite similar to it. Our customised Amigo Android ROM already provides users with features like super power saving mode, seamless integration of links within apps, fingerprint support and inbuilt USB Type C support for charging,” Arvind Vohra pointed out.
He, however, added that Android 6.0 will be rolled out for Gionee devices by January 2016.
