Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday said the CBI clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was not surprising as the agency took its orders from the Congress leadership.
Talking to The Indian Express,Sukhbir said the SAD was keeping a close watch on the developments in the cases against Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar.
“We are not treating this matter as a political issue. But can we help it if the Congress commits such a serious fraud on the people just before the general elections?” he said when asked whether his party would benefit in the coming elections from the CBI move.
“The people of this country expected justice. But the CBI is behaving like the handmaiden of the Congress. The entire world is watching. What was the hurry to give a clean chit to Tytler just before the elections? Was it because the UPA Government wanted to do it during its own regime as it will not return to power?” Badal asked.
Asked if his party planned to start an agitation on the issue, the SAD chief said his party would certainly support all efforts to get justice for the riot victims. “I wonder what is so special about Tytler that the Congress got the CBI to give him a clean chit just before the elections. Does he hold some power over 10 Janpath?” Badal wondered.
