Former Test player Sandeep Patil,the chairman of the national selection committee,resigned from similar posts with the Mumbai Cricket Association and West Zone on Tuesday. He resigned from these posts because he felt he was not devoting enough time to local cricket.

MCA joint-secretary Nitin Dalal said: “I received a letter from Patil stating that he does not wish to continue and is resigning from his post. He has written that he is quitting on moral grounds as he can’t give enough time to local cricket. We haven’t accepted his resignation yet. The matter will be placed before the of managing committee.”

Patil is believed to have sent his resignation to BCCI chief N Srinivasan.

Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy this season but couldn’t do well in the one- dayers and lost all four league games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. With the season coming to an end,Patil’s resignation won’t have an immediate effect on Mumbai cricket.

‘IPL not a must-watch’

BCCI’s selection committee won’t be traveling to IPL games. “BCCI has told them that they can skip the IPL if they want,” an official said. The last selection committee also skipped it after a selector had a problem over his seating.
