VHP wants Centre to remove all UPA appointees

Asks govt to make ‘one wife-two children’ norm a must.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Monday demanded that all political appointments made by the previous UPA government should be replaced and the Centre bring an anti-conversion law.

“All governments in the past have appointed their people in the panels, commissions and committees. So the BJP-led government should replace all the political appointments made by the previous government by a new set of people,” said Surendrekumar Jain, joint secretary general of the VHP.

Coming down heavily on Leela Samson, who has quit as Censor Board chairperson recently, the VHP leader said her move was “political”.

“Her intention was not good. Where was her sensitivity when two members from the Censor Board put in their papers protesting against the movie PK? So her move to resign also was a political decision,” the VHP leader said.
Backing Shankaracharya Vasudevanand Saraswati of Badrikashram who said the Hindu women should have 10 children, Jain said the Hindu leaders were forced to make such statements. “Due to some community which consider having more children is a blessing from Allah, the Hindu leaders are forced to make such statements.”

The VHP leader also demanded that the government should bring in a law to make “one wife and two children” norm compulsory and there should be a uniform civil code.

The VHP would intensify its campaign for an anti-conversion legislation, Jain said and rejected apprehensions that the saffron leaders’ demands would create a hurdle for the government. “BJP is not worried (about the VHP demands). If they were, Naidu (M Venkaiah Naidu) would not have made such a statement in Parliament.”

Manmohan Vaidya, akhil bharatiya prachar pramukh of RSS, however, said that passing an anti-conversion law would not be sufficient to stop conversion of Hindus to other religions. “RSS believes that everyone has the right to choose their religion… but, a law will not be sufficient to stop conversions, an awareness should be created,” he said.
