Uttarakhand: Congress declares Manorama Dobriyal as Rajya Sabha nominee

Dobriyal, who is considered close to Chief Minister Harish Rawat, will file her nomination papers on Monday.

Congress Party has declared former Mayor of Dehradun Corporation Manorama Sharma Dobriyal as its nominee for the Rajya Sabha seat from Uttarakhand. Dobriyal, who is considered close to Chief Minister Harish Rawat, will file her nomination papers on Monday.

Her selection as Congress Party nominee has come is a setback for the Rawat’s rival camp which wanted the Rajya Sabha berth for former CM Vijay Bahuguna. Dobriyal’s selection as Congress nominee for Rajya Sabha berth is a clear indication that the Congress Party is now in no mood to oblige any political bigwigs who is “outsider” in the Uttarakhand politics. Congress has majority in the state and thus, Dobriyal is all set to enter the Rajya Sabha.
