Man kills pregnant daughter in Moradabad

Station Officer, Anshul Kumar, said it is a case of honour killing. Poonam’s body was sent for autopsy.

An unmarried woman, who had to undergo forced delivery, was killed by her father in Dilari police station area of Moradabad district Tuesday.

Police said the girl’s father, Bhagwan Das, a farmer by profession, killed his daughter identified as Poonam for reportedly having an affair with a local youth. Her body was recovered from the thickets.

Station Officer, Anshul Kumar, said it is a case of honour killing. Poonam’s body was sent for autopsy.

Locals last saw Poonam on April 14. Her family claimed she had gone to her relative’s place.

Suspecting foul play, they alerted the police. Cops then questioned Das. He maintained his daughter was at his relative’s place.

After conducting an inquiry, cops picked up Das and interrogated him. On questioning, he confessed to having killed Poonam by strangulating her with a rope and then burying her in the thickets.

Kumar added that they still need to quiz Das at length to know if others were involved in the crime. Cops said other family members were absconding.
