Girl commits suicide in Jharkhand after parents refuse to construct a toilet at home

According to reports, the parents wanted to save money for the girl's marriage.

A 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in Jharkhand’s Dumka district after her parents turned down her request to construct a toilet in the house.

The girl was found hanging from the ceiling of her room by family members, according to police officials.

According to reports, the parents wanted to save money for the girl’s marriage.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh tweeted this morning asking Indians to ‘wake up and build toilets on priority.’

Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day speech, had devoted a major portion to exhorting Indians to build toilets in their homes. He said that his government is committed to building toilets in schools and rural households in remote and tribal parts of the country.
