The victim of the 2012 gangrape in a moving car in Kolkata has alleged that she was denied entry into a restaurant on Saturday night. She filed a complaint at the Kalighat police station Monday against the restaurant authorities, alleging that they didn’t let her in as she was the “Park Street rape victim”.
“I had gone to the restaurant for a dinner with my fiance. I had even booked a table but they didn’t let me in. When I asked why, they said that its because I am the Park Street rape victim,” she alleged.
She had also posted an update on a social networking site on Sunday, accusing the restaurant manager of denying her entry.
However, Dipten Banerjee, the manager of the restaurant denied the allegations saying that the woman is a regular customer but was denied entry over a different reason. “She regularly creates ruckus. I have video footage to prove it. I restricted her entry to avoid any trouble,” he said.
Rubbishing the manager’s version, the woman said restaurant authorities are making stories about her. “They are making up stories. They are also saying that I have pending bills there. If indeed I owed them money, wouldn’t they have asked for it instead of shooing me away,” asked the woman.
An officer at Kalighat police station, Mahadeb Chakraborty, said they “have received the complaint and started investigating”.
