Satara doctor suicide: Police search for accused cop’s cellphone; postmortem report says asphyxia due to hanging caused death

Satara district police, who are investigating the death of a 29-year-old woman doctor who allegedly died by suicide at Phaltan, have said they are searching for the phone of accused suspended Sub Inspector Gopal Badane, which they suspect he has concealed. Police also said they have received the post-mortem report of the doctor, which states that her death occurred because of asphyxia due to hanging.

Meanwhile, the court in Satara on Tuesday extended the police custody of the second accused, software engineer Prashant Bankar, by two days. The 29-year-old doctor, working as a medical officer at the government-run hospital in Phaltan, was found dead at a hotel in Phaltan town on October 23 night. According to police, they found a suicide note written on the woman’s left palm, which said she was allegedly raped four times by Badane, and also mentally and sexually assaulted by Bankar for the last few months.
