Uttar Pradesh picks Saifai as international airport venue

The state government, which till now had been pushing for two international airports in western UP, Friday said it has found Saifai in Etawah district as the lone and the “most feasible” site for the project.

The Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh will no longer pursue the case of developing an international airport in Agra and will instead ask the Centre to develop it in Saifai, the native village of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The state government, which till now had been pushing for two international airports in western UP, Friday said it has found Saifai in Etawah district as the lone and the “most feasible” site for the project.

The move comes months before Assembly polls in the state are to be announced and is likely to give the Opposition ammunition to target the SP, which has often been accused of promoting the ruling Yadav family strongholds of Etawah, Kannauj and Mainpuri.
