A parliamentary panel in its report pulled up the Centre for the Pathankot terror attack, saying had the Centre been serious and the intelligence agencies had functioned properly, then the picture would have been entirely different. The reports said that there is “something seriously wrong with our counter-terror security establishment” and suggested that Pathankot airbase’s security cover was not robust and had a poorly guarded perimeter wall. [related-post] The report of the panel was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. The committee, which visited the Indian Air Force base, questioned how terrorists from Pakistan managed to reach the airbase. "The committee is unable to understand how despite a terror alert (having been) sounded well in advance, the terrorists managed to breach the high-security airbase and subsequently attack it," the panel said. It asked the government to pay attention to effectively sealing the border (with Pakistan) through increased patrolling as well as fencing and floodlighting etc. Seven Indian security personnel were killed in the January 2 attack at the IAF base by terrorists who had crossed over from Pakistan. On January 2, six terrorists who had infiltrated through the border entered the high security Pathankot airbase and opened fire. Seven seven military personnel were killed in an operation that lasted nearly three days. WATCH INDIAN EXPRESS VIDEOS HERE
