NSG team to visit Bangla today to study attacks

A technical team of explosives experts of the National Security Guard (NSG) is set to leave for Bangladesh on Friday to analyse of the materials used for the explosion during an Eid prayer gathering at Kishoreganj, and to study the attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka.

The four-member team will comprise NSG experts in post-blast analysis and counter-terror operations, official sources said. According to sources, the NSG wanted to analyse the two attacks in coordination with their Bangladeshi counterparts to enhance the operational knowledge of the elite commando force.

Raised in 1984, the NSG is the country’s federal counter-terror and counter-hijack commando force. NSG teams have, in the past, travelled to blast sites in other countries to gather information on the manner in which the attacks were executed, and to increase its forensic capabilities.

At least four people were killed, including two policemen, and 13 injured in an explosion near an Eid congregation at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj area of Bangladesh on Thursday. Assailants hurled homemade bombs at a police team at the spot. The congregation comprised a crowd of about 3 lakh people.

The incident comes days after terrorists attacked the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka and killed 22 people, including Indian national Tarishi Jain.
