Mann moves Punjab Haryana HC seeking quashing of sedition FIR

Mann’s counsel Ranjan Lakhanpal said that Mann has been victimised by the present Punjab government due to political differences.

THE president of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Simranjit Singh Mann, has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking quashing of an FIR, under which, he has been charged with sedition.

The FIR has been registered against organisers of the Sarbat Khalsa (congregation of Sikhs), held at Chabba village on November 10. It states that Mann and the other organisers raised slogans against the nation and passed a number of resolutions including one appointing Jagtar Singh Hawara, convicted for assassination of former Punjab CM Beant Singh, as the Jathedar of the Akal Takht.

In his petition, Mann has submitted that the Punjab and Haryana High Court as well as the Supreme Court has already cleared that the mere demand for Khalistan is no offence. The Punjab government has stated that demand for Khalistan as such is no offence, Mann has added.
