The BJP government in Jharkhand has decided to give two per cent reservation to primitive tribal groups (PTGs) in education and government jobs.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Raghubar Das, Tuesday.
“The move is aimed at institutionalising affirmative action required for these groups, which was not available to them. With reservation in education and jobs, it is hoped that it would help PTGs come up through the ranks,” said Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Personnel and Administrative Reforms.

The PTGs, also referred to as “particularly vulnerable tribal groups”, have been facing the problem of dwindling population over the last several years, the government said.
Officials said the two per cent quota would be accorded to the PTGs at all levels of education.
So far as reserved jobs are concerned, they would be filled up by PTG members who will score the minimum qualifying marks, through a process to be decided upon in due course.
