Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Monday expelled a student from Kashmir for allegedly posting a derogatory comment on the terror attack in Uri on Facebook.

Police have also lodged an FIR against the student.

“The student, Mudassar Yusuf from Srinagar, offered his apologies to me for posting the comment. He said he was carried away by sentiments. But I told him that he had been expelled from the university,” AMU Vice-Chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah said.

Aligarh SSP Rajesh Pandey said an FIR had been filed against Yusuf for his derogatory comment on the death of soldiers.

The SHO of Civil Lines police station, where the FIR was lodged, said Yusuf — who is pursuing MSc in organic chemistry — has been booked under Section 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC. The Aligarh district administration has sought an explanation from AMU in the matter.

Satish Kumar Gautam, BJP MP from Aligarh, has also written to the V-C demanding stringent action against the student.
Mudassar Yusuf could not be contacted for comments.
