The body of a woman, found four days ago and now lies in a mortuary in the Medical College in Meerut, has been identified by her estranged husband who saw her photograph on Facebook.
The police had uploaded the woman’s photograph on Facebook on Sunday as no one had come forward to claim the body four days after they found her lying unconscious on a street in Meerut. They had taken her to a hospital, where she was declared dead by doctors who said she was shot at point blank range.
The woman has now been identified as Neha Verma, from Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad, where she lived with her mother. She is survived by a five-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son who live with her estranged husband, Vipin Verma, a jeweller. The two were married in 2008, but in 2012 had approached a family court in Ghaziabad for a divorce, which is still pending.
SSP Onkar Singh told The Indian Express: “She was using three SIM cards and when the police checked details, it was revealed that she was in touch with many people”. He said the police will now question these people.
