Dastaan-E-Mohabbat Salim Anarkali starring Shaheer Sheikh and Sonarika Bhadoria has been piquing the interest of the audience with its passionate love saga. While we all know the end to this tragic tale, the current plot presents the blossoming love between the crowned prince and the courtesan. Indianexpress.com recently sat down for an exclusive chat with Shaheer, who spoke about love, his Bollywood dreams and what makes him go back to Indonesia time and again.

When asked if love like Salim-Anarkali exists in real life, Shaheer said, “Of course it does. If you cannot love passionately, why do it at all? I think in today’s time, we suppress our feelings. We don’t want to express it. But that’s what keeps us alive every day. And love is not only about people; you can love your job, money, fame. Everything that we do, it is for love.”

While the actor might be touching greater heights in his career, he modestly shares that he still doesn’t consider it to be his best phase. He said, “When I was doing my first show (Navya), a lot of people said that was my best time. And similar discussions were taking place when I was doing Mahabharat. I think it’s all about your state of mind. Yes, I am indeed in a very happy place. And I would love to do this every day of my life. But I would also like to achieve more with time.”

A lot of television actors recently took the big jump to Bollywood but Shaheer is in no hurry to make his mark on the big screen, as he said, “Being famous is not my aim. I don’t want to become a superstar. Television helps me reach out to so many people and entertain them every single day. I think as an actor, that’s a bigger responsibility. I really feel lucky to be a part of this industry.”

Reports about getting romantically linked to co-stars is a part and parcel of an actor’s life. When asked if Shaheer is already expecting to be linked with Sonarika, the actor said, “I am sure it will happen again. But I think she needs to be prepared. I am okay now. I have gotten used to it.”

It gets monotonous otherwise. Also, I am humbled by the kind of love and respect that the people have given me in Indonesia. I feel an obligation towards them. I can never forgo them or the projects there.”
