The comedian joined hands with cousin and New York Senator Chuck Schumer to advocate for new legislation that would create financial rewards for states that submit all necessary records into the background check system and penalize states that do not.

On being asked if she anticipated a backlash for becoming an advocate for gun control, Shumer said, “Yeah, I am expecting backlash… But I would deal with it the same way I deal with a lot of hate online for the last 10 years… I want to be proud of how I’m living.”
