Zareen Khan on Mahira Khan being slut-shamed: Rather than judging others, people should look within

Zareen Khan has come out in support of Mahira Khan.

Minutes after pictures of Pakistani star Mahira Khan and Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor surfaced, Twitterati took to their handles to slut shame the Raees actor. All because the photos showed her wearing a short, white dress and smoking. This sent an alarm to the social media moral police, which stinks of sexism. So, overlooking the fact that Ranbir is also seen smoking in the photos, a barrage of unsavoury remarks were launched against Mahira, one of the most popular Pakistani talents across the world, for bringing a bad name to her country, religion, and womanhood.

Not that the actor asked for any support, but there have been many film celebrities- both from India and Pakistan- who have slammed the trolls against her. Speaking her mind on this, Bollywood actor Zareen Khan, who, herself, has been at the receiving end of body and slut-shaming in an interaction with indianexpress.com, said that it’s time people started being less judgmental and let others be. The actor added that the world would be a far better place if everyone minded his or her own business than worrying about how to be a “protector” of mankind.

“Oh! She is a girl, she is wearing a short dress and she is a Muslim, she is from Pakistan… I know all these things. But I think people should understand that everybody is an individual and rather than judging other people, you should take care of yours. If you like something, watch it. If you don’t, then don’t watch it. Everybody has an opinion, everyone behaves as if they are out to take over the world and correct the world, they give out these statements thinking this is how they are contributing to correcting the world by catching hold of a particular human being and trying to make them feel bad,” she said.

“That’s not how to take care of the world. First, take care of your life, correct yourself. There must be a lot of things going wrong in your life. So, I don’t think anyone should judge or point fingers at anybody else till they, themselves, are not perfect,” Zareen concluded.
