Rock On 2 box office collection day 1: Farhan Akhtar’s film mints Rs 2.02 cr
Rock On 2 box office collection day 1: Apparently, Chaar Sahibzaade is doing better than Farhan Akhtar-starrer film.

People are busy exchanging notes at the bank and they don’t have time to watch movies. This was clearly visible on Friday as few people turned out to watch Rock On 2. Currency demonetisation has affected the business of Rock On 2 and Chaar Sahibzaade 2 drastically. Occupancy at theatres remained poor across the country despite Bookmyshow, Paytm running some offers for cine goers.

Apparently, Chaar Sahibzaade is doing better than Farhan Akhtar-starrer Rock On 2. The film saw about 20-25% ( with 40% occupancy in Punjab) as compared to poor 15% occupancy at theatres across the country. Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) confirmed this through his tweet when one viewer speculated about the same.
Rock On was released in around 1700 screens whereas Chaar Sahibzaade is released in around 800 screens. Rock On was expected to collect around Rs 5 crore on the first day, but it could collect Rs 2-2.5 crores somewhere on the first day.

There were speculations that the move by the government could affect the overall business of the film and that the film could even postpone the release. While the film released, it is too early to say anything about the overall impact.

Producer of the film, Ritesh Sidhwani, had accepted that the makers had thought about postponing the release, “It did cross my mind to push the release date of the film but it was too late, because our overseas delivery was already done, the movie has opened today in Gulf so we would have got killed with piracy so if we would have shifted the India release piracy would have killed us.”

Unfortunately, the music has not really caught the imagination of the public, unlike Rock On. One could call it the rock on 2 effect given the fact that Karan Johar’s musical still continues to reign supreme on charts. Rock On 2’s final fate will now depend on the word of mouth that the film will generate.
