The Legislative Assembly and Council Friday gave the nod for salary hike of ministers, elected members, presiding officers and personal assistants.

The hike has been linked with the administrative model with MLAs getting same amount as that of IAS officers of principal secretary rank. The cabinet ministers and presiding officer and opposition leaders would get salary equivalent to that of chief secretary.

Elected members would get a salary of upto Rs 1.25 to 1.50 lakh. At present, they draw Rs 75,000. Sources said, “The decision to link the ministers’ and MLAs’ salary with that of officials would also lead to dropping several allowances which has been clubbed with the total amount.”

At present, the members (MLAs/MLCs) draw Rs 75,000. Cabinet ministers get Rs 67,000. In a major decision, all former members will get a pension of Rs 50 lakh. CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “The salary has been revised and some allowances have been dropped. Overall, although our salaries are still way below that of other states, I will justify it.” Opposition leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil also said, “The hike was necessary as ministers and members were drawing the amount since 2010.”
