Hindu Mahasabha to oppose ‘communal harmony’ meet

Muslim Rashtriya Manch’s August 8 meet in Lucknow only a drama; prepared for a clash too, says national chief.

Hindu organisation Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) has announced that it will oppose the All India Ulema meet being organised by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) wing Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) on August 8 in Lucknow.

According to MRM office-bearers, the event — the theme of the meet will be ‘Dahshat, Danga, Nafrat Aur Hinsa Mukt Bharat Tatha Mohabbat, Aman, Salahiyat Aur Salamati Yukt Bharat’ — is aimed at developing unity and harmony between Hindus and Muslims.

However, ABHM national working president Kamlesh Tiwari said his workers will lay siege around Ravindralaya — the venue of the meet — and not let the ulemas and RSS leaders enter on August 8.

“I am even prepared to face a clash if it happens… This ulema meet is only a drama to attract Muslim voters for BJP and misguide both Hindus and Muslims,” he added.

Tiwari claimed that RSS has deviated from its agenda of providing security to Hindus and making India a ‘Hindu nation’. “The RSS first used the Ram temple issue to attract Hindu voters. Now, it is trying to appease Muslims by holding Ulema meets, Iftar parties and Eid Milan to benefit its political wing, BJP, in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state,” he claimed.

“Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was initially formed as a youth wing of Hindu Mahasabha. RSS founder, K B Hedgewar, was the national vice-president of Hindu Mahasabha for six years… Several offices of RSS were still running in the buildings of ABHM,” he added.

Claiming that RSS was a wing of Hindu Mahasabha that is running a campaign of ‘Islam Mukt Bharat’, Tiwari said: “If you check history, Hindus and Muslims were never united. Believers of Islam could not live peacefully with people of any other religion in any part of world. So, such Ulema meets, under RSS banner, are against the ideology of RSS and ABHM will not let it happen.”

ABHM, which had contested Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the past, plans to contest on most of the seats in the 2017 UP elections.

While in the 2012 state polls, ABHM had contested on 12 Assembly seats but lost all, it had contested on 15 seats in 2007 and its one candidate, Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, had won from Gorakhpur.

Agrawal is currently an MLA from the same seat but as a BJP candidate.

Former chief priest of Gorakhnath Temple, Mahant Avaidyanath, had won Lok Sabha election from Gorakhpur as Hindu Mahasabha candidate in 1989.

Later he won from the same seat as a BJP nominee.

When contacted, MRM national co-convener Mahirajdhwaj Singh said he welcomes Hindu Mahasabha workers if they want to do something on the occasion.

“Does Hindu Mahasabha people not want harmony between Hindus and Muslims? They should be asked what they have done for the society,” he added.

Singh further said that all prominent clerics from across the country will be invited to that meet, where all office-bearers of MRM — including its patron and senior RSS functionary Indresh Kumar — will also be present. Nearly 500 ulemas will be invited from different districts of Uttar Pradesh.
