A CID team investigates inside the Convent school at Ranaghat on Thursday, following the rape of a nun. (Source: PTI)The 71-year-old nun of a convent from Ranaghat area in Nadia district, who was raped on March 14 by unidentified ‘goons’, is likely to be moved out of West Bengal after being released from the hospital here.
Church and missionary sources said the Order to which the nun belonged is contemplating to take her out of West Bengal to some other state.
The local sisters as well as those from the Order who had come from Vatican City to extend their support to the nun as well as the convent said they are unanimous on the matter of taking the victim out of West Bengal.

“In missionary life, we do not have retirements. We retire only to God. Our Sister will do the same – continue with the work of God in some other place in India for the rest of her life,” said a nun in Ranaghat. “Though the nun is out of danger now, she needs more time to recover from the trauma,” said another nun. “Most of the times, she is praying and keeping calm,” she added.
A district administration official said the decision to be discharged from the hospital has been left to the nun. “Whenever she feels comfortable, she will be discharged from the hospital. Now that she is completely out of danger, the nun may be released in a day or two,” he added.
