A class 9 student, Rajat, was allegedly beaten to death in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area on Wednesday evening.
Delhi Police are set to get a bone age X-ray test conducted on the elder of two brothers, who claim to be minors, apprehended in connection with the alleged murder of a 14-year-old boy in east Delhi to ascertain his age. The brothers were produced before a Juvenile Justice Board Friday and sent to a correctional home, said police.
“The bone age study will be conducted on the elder brother,” said a police officer associated with the investigation in the case. “Both claimed they were minors, but it was found the elder brother may be an adult. The elder brother passed Class VI from a government school in Uttar Pradesh. According to his school certificate, his date of birth is January 10, 1998,” the officer, who did not want to be named, added.

Rajat Menon, who studied in Class IX in Salwan Public School, died in mysterious circumstances, allegedly after a scuffle with the two brothers in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase III area Wednesday, said police. The other youngster apprehended in the case is also a Class IX student, said sources.
Police have registered a case of murder on the basis of preliminary investigation. Incidentally, the two brothers rushed Rajat from one hospital to another on a motorcycle late Wednesday evening after they failed to revive him, said a police officer. Sources said the brothers denied slapping or punching Rajat. Police are yet to ascertain the reason for the scuffle, the sources added.
The post-mortem on Rajat’s body was conducted Thursday. Police said no external injury was found on the body and officials preserved the viscera to ascertain the cause of death.
Enraged by the alleged murder, friends and acquaintances of Rajat’s family from the neighbourhood held a demonstration at the DDA market Thursday evening. The protesters vandalised the paan kiosk owned by the father of the two brothers apprehended in the case. The mob also set the kiosk on fire.
