AAP’s internal Lokpal ‘stunned’ by sacking

In his six-point letter, Ramdas says it was unclear when his term as Lokpal ended. “I as Lokpal was requested to investigate complaints against some Lok Sabha candidates from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for the national elections in March-April 2014. Was this, therefore, legal? You will also recall that in January 2015, you as national secretary of the party had referred complaints regarding 12 Vidhan Sabha candidates to me as Lokpal for investigation. I had made my reports to you and others concerned regarding these candidates in time for them to file their nomination papers by January 21, 2015.”

“During the course of my investigations, I had personally examined Manish Sisodia, Ashish Khaitan, Anand Kumar, Gopal Rai as well as the complainants Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav and Arvind, all members of the national executive. I am therefore stunned, bemused and befuddled.”

Ramdas also referred to party spokespersons using his name during the election campaign as a sign of the party’s credibility. “Throughout the campaign period, frequent references were made to… ‘our Lokpal’ Admiral Ramdas and his constant oversight on our ethics within AAP.”

Meanwhile, AAP’s national executive member and former Tamil Nadu convenor, Christina Samy, has resigned from the executive. In a letter on Wednesday, Samy said, “I am resigning…as I feel volunteers have been betrayed, and AAP has lost trust in its own founding principles and the constitution and system of Lokpal.”
