Road accident in Chandimandir leaves 2 dead,12 injured

Monu’s mother fainted when she reached General Hospital,Sector 6,on Wednesday night. Monu,around 30 years old,was the driver of the Tata Magic that collided with a truck near Saket hospital in Chandimandir. He is survived by his old parents.

According to eyewitnesses,the truck,which was going from Pinjore to Panchkula lost control while trying to avoid a motorcyclist,crossed the divider and hit a Tata Magic coming from Panchkula and two persons on a motorcycle,along with it. The pillion rider on the motorcycle,Ashwani Manocha (47),also succumbed to his injuries. Both Monu and Ashwani died on the spot.

The accident took place at around 5:30 pm and there were about 10-12 passengers in the Tata Magic,who were going to Pinjore. The driver of the truck fled the spot.

According to Civil Surgeon Dr VK Bansal,three women,Chanchal,Divya and Manjit Kaur and two children,Monu (6) and Mandeep (8) are among the injured.

Ajay Pandey,a resident of Delhi,Munish,Kuldeep and Gurmeet Kaur-all from Pinjore,Lucky and Ganga Ram of Panchkula and Gurbachan of SAS Nagar were also injured in the accident. One of the injured has been referred to PGI.

Gurbachan,who was travelling with his wife Manjit Kaur and son Mandeep,thanked God for saving their lives. “ We had come from Derabassi and got into the Tata Magic on Old Panchkula-Kalka turn. Suddenly,the truck-tipper fell on us. My son has received a head injury. But I thank God for saving us,” he said.
